General Description:
The Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples (C’mon) is seeking a full-time Director of External Affairs (DEA). Under supervision of the Executive Director, the DEA holds responsibility for the Museum’s relationships with a variety of audiences to help the Museum realize its mission, vision and goals. The DEA is responsible for managing events and external activities for the museum that are not related to education or the capital campaign. The DEA will also assist the Executive Director in managing communication and relationships with board members, business and community leaders, legislators, members, volunteers, and with peer institutions.

Description of Duties / Responsibilities
• Building and sustaining strategic relationships with visitors, members, business and community leaders, legislators and other key constituencies of the Museum.
• Works collaboratively with Executive Director to design and implement a comprehensive marketing and public relations program and appropriate marketing strategies for C’mon in keeping with the Museum’s goals and branding. Monitors and analyzes outcomes from marketing programs/strategies including evaluation of cost effectiveness.
• Coordinates public presentations and appearances, including writing speeches and identifying speaking opportunities.
• Formulates policy and program recommendations that promote the museum within the community and that facilitate and encourage the involvement of business and community leadership with the museum.
• Regularly represents the museum in the community and with key constituencies.
• Plans and executes special events with a broad community focus including panel discussions, receptions and other programming.
• Designs and coordinates production of collateral materials to support the Museum ranging from event invitations and e-newsletters to annual reports and membership materials. • Updates Museum website as needed.
• Manages media relations and PR opportunities.
• Manages advertising program including development of ad schedule, negotiating ad rates and ad placement.
• Manages corporate partnerships and develops new corporate relationships.

Minimum Training and Experience
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in communication, business, marketing or other relevant field; supplemented by three or more years of demonstrated accomplishment in a multi-faceted external relations position.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite & Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat). Graphic design skills required.
• Web and Social Media experience required.
• Knowledge of Southwest Florida media sources.

• Capacity to create and maintain consistent messaging and to manage organizational events for cultivation, awareness building, and celebration.
• Proven ability to work with board members, high value volunteers and community leaders.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.

Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication
• Preparation and periodic submittal of guest columns, letters to the editor, blogs, news releases and other public relations communications to ensure enhanced public visibility of the Museum.
• Ability to comprehend and correctly use a variety of informational documents including budget reports, surveys and trends, and other reports and records.
• Ability to write for publication, conduct research on individuals and organizations, prepare statistics for board and staff review, and other job related documents using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.
• Ability to meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality of restricted information.
• Ability to make independent judgments in absence of management, use common sense, and utilize the principles of rational systems in the performance of tasks.
• Ability to maintain personal composure and tactfully handle difficult situations and interpret questions correctly.

Working Conditions:
a. Informal office environment.
b. Involves evening and weekend hours.
c. Moderate amount of travel, a driver’s license is required.
d. Frequent interaction with public.
