PRIMARY FUNCTION
Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Community Engagement Manager will lead the museum’s public relations as well as community outreach and partnership activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with domestic and international media, covering arts and lifestyle news
  • Write, edit, and distribute all media materials relating to exhibitions, programs, events, and news, including press releases, media alerts and briefing documents
  • Manage communication plan and press preview for each special exhibition opening to garner as much coverage and engagement as possible
  • Respond to and track all media requests for information, interviews, and images in a timely manner
  • Lead media and tourism tours through the museum and set-up on-site or in-studio interviews with Executive Director, Curator, and other museum staff
  • Serve as museum spokesperson when appropriate
  • Identify and work with social media influencers to promote special exhibitions and other events
  • Build relationships and represent the museum in a variety of contexts, including meetings with staff from community organizations and museum partners. Attend, document, and report on meetings.
  • Seek strategic partners for new or expanded collaborations with local, regional and national organizations to increase awareness and admission numbers
  • Plan and manage museum presence at community fairs, markets, club/organization meetings
  • Develop and manage monthly “street team” outreach to hotels and Tampa Bay businesses and organizations
  • Work with Special Events team to coordinator internal events when appropriate
  • Assist with internal communication, script writing and other organizational messaging needs when needed
  • Oversee complimentary admission ticket donation program
  • Prepare community engagement and public relations activity reports and metrics for measuring success
  • Proof reading, editing various communications
  • Other duties as assigned

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years of Public Relations or Communications experience
  • Experience working in a museum or cultural organization preferred
  • Confident communicator and presenter
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate in a clear and persuasive manner
  • Strong project manager
  • Experience building and maintaining media contacts
  • Experience planning, budgeting, developing, and implementing community and media outreach plans
  • Excellent computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Up to date on latest industry trends, able to articulate trends and potential clearly and confidently
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must be motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to manage many simultaneous projects and deadlines
  • Use creative and innovative thinking to enhance the museum’s public relations and community engagement efforts

EDUCATION CERTIFICATION AND TRAINING

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or other related field

Education in an Arts or Nonprofit related field is a plus

SCHEDULE
The museum is open 7 days each week and the Community Engagement Manager will be scheduled for occasional evening and weekend events. Comp time is available.
